OAKLAND, CA — Today, Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer of California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters), released the following statement sharing the promotion of Mike Young, Senior Political & Organizing Director, to Executive Director as he steps into more internal organization oversight. This expanded leadership structure marks a new chapter in EnviroVoters’ growth and trajectory.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“Six years ago EnviroVoters became laser-focused on solving the climate crisis, advancing justice, and ensuring California is creating the global roadmap for action. Since that time, our organization has more than quadrupled in size and catalyzed international change on climate action. Given the new national context and California’s outsized responsibility moving forward, we’re excited to expand our leadership model in a way that reflects our values of equity, sustainability, and collaboration.
Mike Young, current Senior Political and Organizing Director, will be promoted to Executive Director starting in 2025 to oversee more of our internal operations and programming. Mike has spent the last 20 years with EnviroVoters and had an immeasurable impact on environmental leadership in California. A deeply respected leader in the organization and across the state, Mike will bring an unmatched skill set and expertise to this new role.
This organizational shift will continue EnviroVoters’ trajectory of growth and increased impact, while creating new advancement opportunities for our talented team. Our work won’t stop until we have healthy, thriving, and resilient communities, with an economy and democracy that are sustainable and just for all.”
Statement from Mike Young, Executive Director, California Environmental Voters:
“EnviroVoters has always sought to lead in innovative ways, not just in creating a sustainable world but in modeling sustainability within our own work. This shared leadership model is a reflection of our values and a demonstration that this mission is a marathon that takes a village to complete. In recent years we’ve helped elect environmental champions who have gone on to collaborate with us to pass game-changing laws that reflect California’s values, like the Great American Outdoors Act, the Corporate Climate Accountability Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. I know we’ll continue to make progress to solve the climate crisis even in the face of opposition from corporate polluters and a hostile presidential administration in the coming years.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
