SACRAMENTO – Today, Mary Creasman Chief Executive Officer of the California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) issued the following statement addressing EnviroVoters’ initial success of a digital ad campaign resulting in Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s support of the Great American Outdoors Act:
“Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s commitment to support the Great American Outdoors Act is a significant milestone towards protecting our public lands and empowering our communities. Over the past five weeks, our digital ad campaign called on Rep. McCarthy’s constituents to demand he take a stance in support of this crucial conservation bill. It is not a coincidence that Rep. McCarthy’s support follows EnviroVoters holding him accountable in his district.
This bill is an obvious win-win for every community. Permanently funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) would protect the 40,000 state and local parks supported by this program. LWCF would not only ensure Californians and future generations could enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, but it would also fuel growth in regional economies. With COVID-19 devastating communities, we must invest in a program that supports over 7 million American jobs and creates billions of dollars in economic outputs.
We thank Rep. McCarthy’s support for public lands, and we will be watching as this bill moves forward in Congress. We are committed to protecting our public lands not only for ourselves but for future generations to come.”
ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
